AI Demystified: A Practical Introduction for Maritime Procurement

Carrying on from IMPA Hamburg, the subject of AI in the maritime industry still remains at the top of the agenda. Joining us again to explore this subject is Immo Bruggemann, Managing Director of Creatum. Immo has built his work around closing the AI understanding gap. As he puts it:
"You need domain knowledge or you cannot do anything in it."
In this practical, no-hype session, Immo breaks down what AI is, how it works, and where it can genuinely create value within maritime procurement and supply chain management. Designed for those at the start of their AI journey, the session focuses on real applications and implementation, not buzzwords.
He's equally direct about where the risks lie once AI is adopted:
"You should always be aware of and focus on auditability. The models and solutions you set up need to be able to explain what they do and why."
Discover what a solid, working grasp of AI actually looks like, and why it has to come before trust in the tools, not after.

The Conversation Continues in the first debate session - AI in Maritime Procurement: Promise, Reality and Responsibility
Tuesday 23 September 2026 | 12:30 - 13:00
Immo's session sets the tone for the entire day, and he doesn't step away after it. He returns later that morning as part of the panel for AI in Maritime Procurement: Promise, Reality and Responsibility, joining Henning Wegner, Carsten Schmidt and Will Rush to debate where AI genuinely stands right now in maritime procurement, is AI working? Is it doing enough, or can it do more? Where could AI could be heading? Do you want it here at all, or does it not quite make sense, and is it being managed correctly?
Delegates who hear Immo's grounding introduction at 11:00 get the benefit of following the same voice straight into the live debate at 12:30, giving the morning a clear thread from first principles through to hard questions.
On the panel:
• Henning Wegner, Head of Procurement, Oldendorff Carriers GmbH & Co. KG
• Immo Brüggemann, Managing Director of Creatum
• Carsten Schmidt,Vice President of Sales at Procureship
• Will Rush, CEO & Co-Founder at Breakwater

Why This Agenda Matters
This isn't an event built around abstract industry trends, it's built around the real tension procurement leaders are navigating right now: modernising without losing institutional knowledge, hitting ESG targets with genuine accountability, and adopting AI without outsourcing judgement.
With speakers from BW LPG, North Star, V.Group, FLEET Management, Scorpio Group, ShipServ, Oldendorff Carriers, Breakwater, ProcureShip, Wilhelmsen, Closelink, and NARWHAL PROJECT all in the room, expect the debates to be just as candid as the session titles suggest.
IMPA London 2026 takes place 22–23 September at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre, Westminster, London.
